Evolutionary history of Scinax treefrogs on landâ•’bridge islands in southâ•’eastern Brazil

چکیده
Island faunas are ideal for the study of evolutionary processes because both drift and selection can lead to genotypic and phenotypic divergence (Mayr, 1954; Schluter, 1988). Most studies of island endemics focus on habitat diversity and ecological gradients of isolated archipelagos that promote speciation and support considerable species diversity Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 148532701, USA, Departamento de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Rua Prof. Artur Riedel, 275 – Diadema, São Paulo 09972-270, Brazil, Programa de PósGraduação em Biologia Animal, Instituto de Biociências, Letras e Ciências Exatas, Universidade Estadual Paulista, São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, 15054-000, Brazil, Departamento de Zoologia, Instituto de Biociências, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Caixa Postal 199, Rio Claro, São Paulo, 13506900, Brazil

Effects of a fire on a population of treefrogs (Scinax cf. alter, Lutz) in a restinga habitat in southern Brazil.
The area of the Dunas da Joaquina, in Santa Catarina island, contains one of the most important remnants of restinga habitat in Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil. In December 2003, a fire occurred in a portion of this area, affecting most of the vegetation, including the bromeliad community. In this study, the density of individuals and the diet composition of the bromelicolous treefrog Sci...
متن کاملHigh Species Richness of Scinax Treefrogs (Hylidae) in a Threatened Amazonian Landscape Revealed by an Integrative Approach
Rising habitat loss is one of the main drivers of the global amphibian decline. Nevertheless, knowledge of amphibian diversity needed for effective habitat protection is still highly inadequate in remote tropical regions, the greater part of the Amazonia. In this study we integrated molecular, morphological and bioacoustic evidence to evaluate the species richness of the treefrogs genus Scinax ...

Information on the cladocerans of Eastern Palaerctic is limited, and remote islands of Arctic and Subarctic in this region are among inadequately studied territories, i.e. due to a very limited access to them. "Nearctic" Eurycercus longirostris is reported here for the first time from Bering Island and Wrangel Island. Also E. macracanthus is found to be common in Kamchatka Peninsula, while prev...

According to the recent taxonomic and phylogenetic revision of the family Hylidae, species of the former Scinax catharinae (Boulenger, 1888) clade were included in the resurrected genus Ololygon Fitzinger, 1843, while species of the Scinax ruber (Laurenti, 1768) clade were mostly included in the genus Scinax Wagler, 1830, and two were allocated to the newly created genus Julianus Duellman et al...
متن کاملSea level, topography and island diversity: phylogeography of the Puerto Rican Red-eyed Coquí, Eleutherodactylus antillensis.
Quaternary climatic oscillations caused changes in sea level that altered the size, number and degree of isolation of islands, particularly in land-bridge archipelagoes. Elucidating the demographic effects of these oscillations increases our understanding of the role of climate change in shaping evolutionary processes in archipelagoes. The Puerto Rican Bank (PRB) (Puerto Rico and the Eastern Is...
